While controversy over Hijab continues in Bengaluru, Madhya Pradesh Education minister hinted banning such community-specific attires in schools.
Early on Tuesday, speaking to the newsmen in Bhopal, the MP School Education minister Inder Singh Parmar on being asked about use of hijab in schools claimed that he deems such outfit can’t be part of the school dress code.
However, as a controversy brewed on the matter, he sort of backtracked and said the department was working on a uniform dress code for schools and this has nothing to do with the any religion or community.
Parmar in a video statement said that the department is working on a dress code for schools (starting with CM Rise schools), in order to bring uniformity and equality among students. Fending off queries on banning hijab in schools, Parmar claimed that uniform isn’t connected to any community, its for all and it was unfortunate that people are linking dress code with a community. We are working on the policy of dress code and will reveal more details once its ready, added the minister.
We are implementing dress code in CM Rise scheme schools from next academic session. Asked what if a controversy ensues, the minister said like murders, thefts take place despite prohibitions so there are systems like police and law to deal with the such acts.
It is an unfortunate statement from the minister, Congress Bhopal Madhya MLA Arif Masood said. Daughters look good when covered, he said adding Parmar should more think on quality of education. It’s a fact that Hijab hasn’t done any damage to education in last 70 years. There was a time (Covid19) when everyone was required to put on masks. "If implemented, I will oppose this diktat vehemently in the state, affirmed the Congress MLA who has been cornering state government on a number of issues," he added.
