MP Assembly sees fireworks between Cong, BJP members

Published on:

The Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday witnessed unprecedented scenes as the ruling BJP and main Opposition, the Congress members, almost came to blows after the House was adjourned for five minutes during the Question Hour over the distribution of benefit of insurance of soybean crops to farmers.

The trouble began when Farmers' Welfare Minister Gaurishankar Bisen while replying to a question by BJP member Dilip Singh Shekhawat over the distribution of crop insurance made certain comments that enraged Congress members.

Although Speaker Sitasharan Sharma expunged the remarks from proceedings, several Congress members came to well raising slogans and got engaged in heated exchange with the

treasury bench.

Bisen said the Government has provided its share and the compensation would be distributed when the Centre provided its share. Attacking the Centre, the Minister again uttered certain remarks targetted at opposition members which were against expunged by the Speaker.

However, this incensed the Congress member further who raised vociferous protest against the Minister's conduct. The Speaker tried to pacify the situation but his efforts went in vain forcing him to adjourn the House for

five minutes.

Soon after, both BJP and Congress members were seen rushing in the Well with the apparent intention of targetting each other.

However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra and other senior members pacified members of their respective parties preventing the situation from deteriorating further.

Earlier, during the Question Hour, the house was adjourned for five minutes following ruckus created by Opposition Congress over an objectionable remark made

by Agriculture Minister Gaurishankar Bisen on the issue of not getting any financial assistance from the Centre for the rain/hail hit farmers in the State.

Replying to a question from Dilip Singh Shekhawat of Congress on the

issue of crop insurance scheme Bisen said that though the State Government had provided a lot of assistance to farmers, the Centre had

failed to give a single paisa to the State for providing

relief to them.

Also, the BJP members condemned the Centre's behaviour by shouting ‘shame-shame’, to which, the Congress members objected.

Following this, an objectionable remark by Bisen resulted in ruckus and agitated Opposition members rushed to the well of the house and raised slogans against the Minister.

The Speaker later expunged the remark.

The BJP members also rushed to the well in protest but the Parliamentary

Affairs Minister, Narottam Mishra and other senior members persuaded both the BJP and Congress members to return to their seats after which the Speaker adjourned the house for five minutes to restore order.
