Monsoon Session to begin in State today

The crucial 12-day Monsoon Session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly will begin on Monday with the Opposition Congress having already served notice to move a no-confidence motion against the State Government. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also braced up to face the Opposition charges by expelling the former finance minister Raghavji Bhai from the primary membership of the party.

The Session is considered crucial as it will be the last session to be held before the State Assembly elections slated in November this year. The Congress had moved a no-confidence motion during the Winter Session of the Assembly in November 2011.

This time the motion is intended to discuss many issues, including the deteriorating law and order situation, rise in crime against women and alleged widespread corruption.

The Assembly Session will commence when the ruling BJP is red-faced over the scandal involving its senior leader and former state finance minister Raghavji, who has been accused by a man of sodomy.

Madhya Pradesh is going to polls in November this year. In 230-member House, BJP has 151 members, Congress-65, BSP-7, SP-1 and Independents-3, one nominated member and two seats are vacant.

The leader of Opposition in Assembly Ajay Singh while talking to The Pioneer stated, “Congress wanted to bring the motion against Shivraj Singh Chouhan Government over a range of issues like breakdown of law and order, failure of flagship Atal Jyoti Abhiyan, rising crimes against women etc.”

Meanwhile, in the latest development the ruling BJP in order to pace down Opposition attack in the House expelled former finance minister Raghavji Bhai from the primary membership of the party. Raghavji has resigned on Friday following sodomy charges levelled by his domestic male servant.
