Modi: Vishwa Hindi Sammelan is the Hindi Mahakumbh

Published on:
Addressing the inaugural session of the 10th Vishwa Hindi Sammelan here on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed it as a 'Hindi Mahakumbh'.
He said, "Madhya Pradesh has significant contribution in enriching Hindi and the significance of a language is realised only when it becomes extinct. Be conscious before extinction."
It is the responsibility of every generation to preserve linguistic heritage and pass it on to the next generations, he said, adding that the power of language can be gauged by the fact that non-Hindi speaking people launched a movement to make it National language, which is a source of inspiration.
Other salient points that he covered during his speech were:- language is conscious like life. language cannot be a static; it is whiff of air carrying fragrance. language modifies itself and adds new words. Everyone should make efforts to enrich Hindi. There should be workshops between Indian languages to enrich each other. language should be inclusive.
Hindi's eminence is going to increase in future. A major market of language will come up. 90 percent of languages are on the verge of extinction by the end of 21st century.
Do not shut doors on other languages. Treasure of experience and knowledge will not survive if Hindi does not survive. Digital world's role will be most significant. It will be dominated by English, Chinese and Hindi.
Change language in accordance with technology. language must unite all. Sanskrit language has immense treasure of knowledge. But we could not fully tap it due to lack of information and moved away from it, gradually.
