Modi laments UP's inaction in Bundelkhand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday appreciated the Madhya Pradesh Government wholeheartedly for the inauguration of an irrigation project and Parivartan rally at Mahoba, a part of Bundelkhand region shared with Uttar Pradesh.

Modi said that Madhya Pradesh helped local people, farmers and cattle owners by developing a network of milk cooperative societies, providing facilities for irrigation, food grain storage, drinking water in its part of the region, using maximum financial help given by the Centre under the package.

He further said that the Central Government had provided Rs 3,500-4,000 crore each to Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh for the development of Bundelkhand region. Madhya Pradesh executed 90 percent scheme and programmes by utilising the fund; only 40 per cent work was done in Uttar Pradesh.

The Prime Minister said that Uttar Pradesh started 70 irrigation projects with the fund allotted by the Centre and no project was completed. On the other hand, Madhya Pradesh Government started execution on 170 projects in its part and completed all. The farmers of Bundelkhand region became happy because of Madhya Pradesh’s appreciating efforts. The farmers in Uttar Pradesh remain in miserable conditions.

The Prime Minister said that Madhya Pradesh started 1000 projects in water shed management from the fund allotted by the Centre. Good works were done in all projects. On the other side, no work was started in Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh and money was kept without use.

Modi stated that there was a target to dig 30,000 wells in Bundelkhand area of Uttar Pradesh from the Union Government funds, but only 3500 wells were made.

Whereas, the Madhya Pradesh Government under the leadership of Shivraj Singh Chouhan has completed work of 47,000 wells

against a target of 45,000

wells in Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh.

He further said that appropriate warehousing arrangements in Bundelkhand region of both the States were to be made for crops of farmers from the funds of the Union Government. Madhya Pradesh has successfully constructed warehouses having 6 lakh metric

tonne capacity in its area of Bundelkhand. Whereas no work is undertaken in Uttar Pradesh

which is a sheer example of wastage of money.
