Rajya Sabha member Chandan Mitra has said that Madhya Pradesh has excelled in the field of agriculture under the leadership of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. “With his efforts, Madhya Pradesh has left behind Punjab and Haryana in wheat production,” he said, adding that now, Madhya Pradesh has become an agriculturally prosperous State.

Mitra was speaking at the Dussehra Ground here after inaugurating the three-day agriculture science fair under the ongoing Krishi Mahotsav. The programme was chaired by local parliamentarian Sudhir Gupta. District panchayat chairperson Avantika Mehar Singh Jaat, MlA from Jawad Om Prakash Saklecha, MlA from Neemuch Dilip Singh Parihar and others were present on the occasion.

Mitra further said that at a time when population is increasing, the farmland is shrinking. The situation could be dealt with only by increasing the agriculture production. Talking about the local farmers, the Rajya Sabha member said that farming of medicinal plants is done in the region, which indicates that the farmers are progressive. This could be more beneficial, if the farmers concentrate on marketing of their produce and connect with the global market, he added.

lok Sabha member from Mandsaur-Neemuch constituency Sudhir Gupta said that the State Government has done lots of work for the betterment of the farmers. It has focused on increasing the cultivation area and the irrigation facilities. Arrangements have been made so that around 50,000 hectare land of the region would be irrigated through water from Chambal river, he added.
