A controversy has erupted over the educational qualification of Congress’ mayoral candidate Kailash Mishra. Sources in the State Election Commission said that Mishra had submitted two different sets of information regarding his qualification while filing his nomination for the upcoming Bhopal Municipal Corporation election.
While contesting election for the post of corporator in the year 2009, Mishra had mentioned in the affidavit that he was educated up to eighth standard and he had passed Class VIII from the Government school in Bhind in 1970. However, in the recently submitted affidavit with the Commission, Mishra has stated that he had passed Class XII from Bhind in 1970. Now, his opponents in his own party and the ruling BJP are highlighting this issue in the city.
Now, Mishra is in a fix over the situation, as how he passed both eighth and 12thstandard examination in the same year. BJP’s mayoral candidate Alok Sharma has raised similar question and demanded that legal action should be taken against Mishra for furnishing wrong information to the Election Commission.
Sources from the Commission said that even if he was elected, he could be removed from the post only on the charge that he furnished wrong information in the affidavit. As per rules, anybody may move a petition in this regard with the Commission, one month after the results are declared. Besides, sources claimed that an FIR under section 420 of the IPC can also be registered against him if the charges are proved.
