leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Ajay Singh has termed the statement of Minister Narottam Mishra that he would vote in presidential election as contempt of court.
In a statement, Singh said that the Election Commission has already declared Mishra ineligible for contesting elections in connection with a case related to paid news.
This case is yet to be heard in a double bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court of Jabalpur. Before this hearing, statement of Mishra is contempt of court, after contempt of the Election Commission of India, he alleged.
Singh further stated that in the past, cases related to Uttar Pradesh legislator Urmilesh Yadav and Maharashtra MlA Ashok Chavan, High Court and Supreme Court had found the decision of Election Commission of India justified.
He alleged that Mishra, out of his power being powerful cabinet minister, has started considering him above law. Mishra has termed the decision of the Election Commission of India as wrong.
However, he also coming out with his decision before the verdict of the High Court, which is clearly a case of contempt of the court, he alleged. Singh claimed that out of similar arrogance, Mishra acted during his election in 2008 by overlooking model code of conduct.
The Minister forgot that there are several constitutional institutions and people in the country that do not get influenced with his power and post, Singh claimed. He stated that this is how democracy is still alive in the country.
