Minority leaders sore with Cong, say options open

Infuriated with the indifferent attitude of the State Congress leaders, Muslim organisations in Madhya Pradesh threatened to approach Bharatiya Janata Party to hold discussions for overall afflux of the community.

Madhya Pradesh Muslim Vikas Parishad (MPMVP) president Mohammed Mahir, in a statement here on Monday, said, “After meeting with the Sate Congress leaders in New Delhi, we feel that the Congress is trying hard to return to power in Madhya Pradesh but its leaders are not serious over the issue of fielding Muslim candidates and are reluctant in providing tickets to them.”

Mahir charged that the State Congress leaders were backing out from supporting Muslim candidates with the fear that if the candidates recommended by them got defeated than their reputation with the party leadership would suffer. But these leaders do not have the same apprehension while recommending candidates of other religion, he added.

He further informed that in order to help Congress leaders overcome their fear MPMVP conducted a survey in the Muslim populated Assembly constituencies of the State and prepared a panel of winnable Muslim candidates from each of these constituencies. The panel had been formed by keeping in the mind that it should include names of only those candidates who are capable of getting votes of all communities and castes, he added.

He said that after the survey the MPMVP prepared panel for 14 Assembly constituencies of the State and handed it over to senior and responsible leaders of All India Congress Committee (AICC) including its general secretary in-charge for the State Mohan Prakash, AICC treasurer Motilal Vohra, AICC secretary Madhusudan Mistry and Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) leaders including State president Kantilal Bhuria, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, Union Ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kamalnath.

He said that the MP had a bipolar track record. During the past 10 years, rule of BJP has impressed Muslims and if the Congress continued to ignore the community than soon they would approach the saffron party for comprehensive afflux of the community including political and socio-ecnomic development of community, he warned.
