Min aims to fight malnourishment with eggs

Eggs that have always been a source of rich protein, are once again in the limelight in Madhya Pradesh, as Woman and Child Development (WCD) Minister Imarti Devi has once again decided to go with her old plan of fighting malnourishment with eggs.

Imarti Devi, a staunch Jyotiraditya Scindia loyalist, who worked in Kamal Nath Government had worked in the same capacity and had proposed eggs against malnutrition.

Then in opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party had vehemently opposed the move from the Minister. Now the Minister by their side, BJP is singing a different tune.

BJP leader Dhairyavardhan Singh on the issue said that these are Minister’s personal views but was quick to add that the Minister has been looking after the department for long and is saying what she feels fit to fight malnutrition.

Singh also cited a survey finding which claims that 49.5% persons in the State are non-vegetarian while 50.5% are vegetarian. The leader also claimed that Minister’s views should not be seen in one-sided manner as she has also claimed that if the severely malnourished kids don’t prefer eggs, they could be offered fruit diet.

Singh also claimed that nothing has been decided and these are only different ideas discussed as of now.

Congress leader JP Dhanopia however lambasted the BJP for double standards. Our stand is clear that egg in diet should not be forced onto someone but it’s intriguing to see BJP siding with the idea contrary to their previous stand where they opposed the similar move during Congress Government, Dhanopia said.
