'Mid-day meal scheme not a priority of Govt'

State Congress leader has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party Government of the State has removed the important public welfare scheme of mid-day meal from its priority list.

Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president and MP Kantilal Bhuria in a statement here on Thursday said the mid-day meal scheme through State Government is running in the State since last four and a half decade. Earlier, this mid-day meal scheme used to run only in the tribal areas of the State but later after the constitution of Women and child welfare department this scheme was implemented all over the State, he added.

Bhuria further said that during the Congress rule in the State this children welfare scheme was included in the priority scheme of the State Government because it was done with the motive of increasing children number in the primary schools besides maintaining the admitted number of children till the end of the session. Bhuria said that the Congress Government always remained concerned that the children should get quality food through mid-day meal and that there should not be any irregularity in conduct of this scheme.

It seems now that the BJP Government has removed this children welfare scheme from the priority list due to that it has become a scheme to oblige the favorite contractors of the ruling party during the past eight-nine years besides a scheme to cherish the ruling party middlemen, he added.   The State Congress president said that it appears that the State Government is doing pity on the children and in that providing anything half cook, rotten and incomplete food. The BJP Government has left the important scheme on the mercy of departmental officers, employees and the contractors. The only relation this Government is maintaining with this scheme is to get commission amount well in time, he added.
