People of the State got some relief from the intense cold conditions as the mercury shot up by 1.5 to 2.5 degree Celsius and according to meteorological office northwestern plains will continue to brave cold and dry northwesterly winds. Minimum temperatures are expected to further increase during next 24 hours.

The fresh Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir is likely to give scattered light to moderate rain and snow over the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, while lower reaches of the region will receive light to moderate rain only.

These cold northerly winds are also reaching up to Madhya Pradesh. As a result, cold wave conditions would be observed over East Madhya Pradesh with both maximum and minimum temperatures settling below normal.

Cold wave conditions are likely to continue over parts of Madhya Pradesh. Due to continuous inflow of dry and cold northerly winds from the hills of North India, conditions are likely to remain unchanged for the next 24 hours at least.

Present phenomenon can be touted as abnormal as cold wave conditions over these areas very rare. According to meteorological office dry and cold northerly and northwesterly winds from the hilly region have been reaching to Madhya Pradesh for the last four to five days. While, minimum temperatures are under 10°C and are below normal by 5-7 degrees.
