Meet gets postponed as Cong creates ruckus

Following ruckus, the general council meeting of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) was postponed for June 4. On Monday as soon as the BMC general council meeting started, the Congress Corporators led by leader of opposition in the BMC, Mohammed Saghir broke pots, shouted slogans and did sit-in demonstration before the BMC chairman Surjeet Singh Chouhan over the ongoing water crisis in the State capital. The ruckus continued for a long time forcing the Chairman to postpone the general council meeting for June 4.

Though, the divide among the Congress Corporators was clearly visible during the scene created by them as the supporters of the MlA Arif Aqueel remained mute spectator of the whole scenario.  The BMC chairman Chouhan and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Corporators tried to convince the Congress Corporators many a time, but they didn’t stop.

The meeting was called for discussing the proposals of construction of sewage system in the city and streetlights and it started one hour behind the schedule time. But it could not last for even an hour. As soon as the meeting started, the Congress Corporators started demanding discussion over water crisis that was not in the agenda of the meeting, as the BMC chairman refused to take the issue for discussion as it was not listed in the agenda. Citing rules, Chouhan said that discussion on any issue that is not listed in the agenda could be done only after the discussion on the agenda gets complete. Angry over this, the opposition members created ruckus in the house. Mayor Alok Sharma did not attend the meeting on Monday on medical grounds, but the opposition alleged that failing to fulfill his commitment of streamlining the water supply in the city had forced him to give it a miss.
