'Medical field has adequate job potential'

Member of National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH) Dr Girdhar Gyani has said that there are adequate employment opportunities in medical institutions, but at present these institutions lack efficient medical staff. He said that over 65 percent vacancies are meant for the women in the hospital. Dr Girdhar Gyani said that reach of private medical institutions was limited to reach upto 20 percent patients upto the year 1980.
In due course of time this reach has now substantially increased. Now, over eighty per cent patients depend on medical institution belonging to private sector. Dr Gyani was presenting his key note address in a motivational session of eye surgeon, para medical staff and member of HR department of Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital, the other day.
Dr Gyani said that to receive accreditation status by any health institution should not be treated as a destination. This is only a step toward excellence. Doctors, Paramedical staff and management should regularly perform integrated efforts to upgrade the services of the hospital. He further said that a patient who is indirectly consumer also is presently expecting best medical services.
He further said that medical expenses are gradually increasing but central govt has only made a provision of Rs 30,000 per family per annum under national health insurance scheme.
Dr Gyani told that only 55,000 medical graduates pass out every year from 450 medical colleges of the country. Similarly ratio of population and available health staff is also not adequate.
There are only 23 health employees of various levels available for 10,000 population.
