The elements of martial arts blended magnificently with traditional dance were much appreciated by the Bhopal art lovers. The second day of Jharkhand Mahotsav was an entirely splendid affair of art for the Bhopalites.
It is to be noted that the Jharkhand Mahotsav is a weeklong event being organised at Bharat Bhavan. The event is all about folk art and culture of Jharkhand.
Here on Thursday, the city art lovers experienced a mixture of various spontaneous performances on stage. The colours and shades of Jharkhand’s culture and tradition were seen everywhere at the venue.
The event on second day began with the Paika folk dance performance. The folk dance was performed by Manpuran lohra and his troupe. Notably, Paika dance symbolises battle-art having no songs, music and performance body language speak highly of the content.
It was a rare experience by the art lovers as they have never witnessed such a splendid performance before. The event was followed with the performance of Manbhum Chhau dance by Gambhirchand and Ramesh Mahto along with their troupe. The Manbhum Chhau is a martial art dance performed by all communities of Jharkhand where the group of dance use heavy masks and brightly coloured costumes and traditional ornaments to give an attractive look.
The mask is used for description of character. This is perhaps the best-known style of Chhau largely due to it energetic and dramatic characteristics. It was beautifully presented before the audience.
later, Antarang Hall of Bharat Bhavan witnessed the calm and composed folk music of Jharkhand. Classical singer Nilanjan Mitra performed classical music before the Bhopalites. It was followed with marvelous tabla recital by Srijit Chhatterjee.
