The Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) has set an example in water recycling initiated by it around 14 years ago. So far, a number of different organisations from Central Government and the State have studied the whole project and implemented.

Senior manager Engineering Services Devendra while talking to The Pioneer said, “Several organisations like Jabalpur railway team in 2010-11, Bhopal railway team in 2010-11, Proctor & Gamble team in 2012-13 and Madhya Pradesh State Health department’s team in 2015 visited this recycle plant as there is hardly any set up similar to this in the State.”

Madhya Pradesh Pollution control Board gave information to the visiting organisations regarding the water recycle set up in BMHRC, added Singh. MP State Ministry of Health team visited the water recycle plant for a hospital in Vidisha where the work is in Progress.

BMHRC uses its recycled sewage water in horticulture and agriculture inside the campus and claims to save lakhs of rupees per month.

Water recycle plant in-charge, Jitendra Sharma said that initially, a sewage treatment plant was started in 2001 and later in 2002 it was adjoined with a water recycle plant. It collects over three lakh liter sewage water per day in the collection sump and approximately two lakh liters water is recycled and used per day in horticulture, AC plant cooling, DG set cooling tower and Type A & B quarters for gardening.

He informed that the life span of the water recycle plant is 10 years but due to good maintenance it is running uninterrupted for past 15 years. There is Municipal Corporation Kolar water supply in the campus for drinking water and additional nine bore-wells support in fulfilling other requirements.

Sharma further said that as the sewage water inside the campus is being recycled and used, it saves approximately Rs 12000 per day which mounts up to a total of Rs 3.60 lakh per month. The output is two lakh litres per day which covers a huge part of the requirement in the campus.
