Angry over the management diktat to ban wearing of shorts and skirts girl students of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) created a ruckus in the campus on Thursday.

The girls opposed to the guidelines to stop wearing shorts and skirts in the institute campus, hostel and lobby are also demanding entry in the hostel after 10 pm.

The agitating girl students shouted slogans against the management as they are angry that the management diktat not only stops them from wearing shorts and skirts in the institute campus, hostel and lobby but also commands what they should wear and not wear.

The girls are of the view that the hostel is like home where they should feel comfort and in such conditions this diktat of the management is not feasible, and if this diktat is not withdrawn they would knock at the doors of the Women's Commission.

While the management is of the view that in order to maintain the decorum it is necessary for the girls to abide by the guidelines set by it. The management says that the guidelines have been set up so that the atmosphere of the institute does not get spoiled.

MANIT Counsel of Warden NP Patidar said that the management is considering the demands of the girl students.

Notably, as per the new provisions the MANIT girl students have been stopped from wearing small dresses on the institute campus, dining area and in hostel office. In these places girls have been prohibited from wearing skirts, shorts and other small dresses.

If found flouting these guidelines the girls would have to face disciplinary action and they would be fired out of the hostel.

The girls are opposing the rule of entry till 9.30 pm and are demanding one hour relaxation in this rule, they are of the view that they attend coaching and it is common to return by 10 or 10.15 pm, in these circumstances the order to enter by 9.30 is not feasible hence the entry time should be made till 10.30 pm.
