A 38-year old man who set ablaze his wife on Monday for allegedly suspecting illicit relationship with someone was arrested by Talaiya police on Tuesday. Police said the 35-year-old woman was set ablaze by her husband, Taj Qureshi, by pouring kerosene on her at Bhoipura on Monday.
The locals rushed her to a nearby hospital where she is undergoing treatment. The victim sustained 50 percent burns; improvement in her conditions is not witnessed but the doctors claimed the victim was reportedly stable, he added.
After the incident the accused escaped from the spot, however he was arrested by the police on Tuesday. Station House Officer of Talaiya police station Pritam Thakur said the accused was in an inebriated state when the incident took place and he was also found heavily drunk at the time of arrest.
Police have not found any past record of the accused. But the neighbours claimed that the accused used to harass his wife at most of the time. The police registered a case under section 307 of the IPC. later the accused was produced in a local court on Tuesday and was sent under judicial custody.
