A rape accused electrocuted himself in the Central jail here in the morning hours of Monday. The accused was arrested for sexually assaulting his 10-year-old step-daughter on Saturday.
The rape accused, Suresh Munde, was charged with rape by his 10-year-old step daughter. She along with her mother had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Piplani police.
On Sunday, Munde was arrested and produced in a local court that ordered to send him to jail.
However, since, it was already late in the evening, he was kept in the lockup of the Piplani police station and on Monday taken to the Central Jail, Bhopal. He was lodged in the jail at around 6.30 am, but soon after reaching his barrack, Munde committed suicide by catching the electric wires.
Police said, in the barrack the accused damaged the switch board and caught the live electric wires. In serious condition, he was rushed to Hamidia hospital where he was declared dead.
Superintendent of Jail Manshram Patel said that at around 7.30 am when the morning parade was going on, the accused was sitting in the porch and after returning from toilet he broke the switch board and gripped the live wires after removing slippers which caused his death.
Police said the accused worked as sanitation worker with BMC. Accused was victim’s step father; her mother married accused and started living with him along with the victim. The accused, his wife and her daughter were not having any permanent shelter and used to live at abandoned BHEl quarters. The reason behind the suicide of the accused could be ascertained as the moment and would be investigated. Since, a prisoner has died in the jail premises, a Judicial inquiry has been ordered in the matter. Earlier on Aug 10 a woman accused of killing her husband consumed poison after she entered the central jail Bhopal and later died.
