Demanding arrest of Governor Ramnaresh Yadav in the infamous Vyapam scam, a party worker of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) tried to commit suicide by immolating himself during a Guard of Honour at Governor House on Wednesday.

The man, later identified as Manoj Tripathi, appeared just before the Governor's cavalcade as it was leaving the Governor House and set himself afire. Alert police personnel rushed to rescue him and pacified the fire but still he sustained burns.

The man sustained burn injuries on his hands and was later arrested by the police. The police have registered a case for deterring public servant from discharge of his duty.

A ruckus was created at the farewell of Ramnaresh Yadav. The incident occurred during Guard of Honour given to the Governor at around 4.30 pm on Wednesday when he was about to come out from the Raj Bhawan on his way to airport.

SP Bhopal (North)  Anshuman Singh  said Manoj Tripathi sustained around 5 per cent burns as he was immediately rescued due to alert police personnel deployed at the security.

Yadav had secured a stay from the Madhya Pradesh High Court which offered him constitutional immunity in the case registered against him by the STF in the forest guard recruitment scam, 2014.

According to the police Tripathi is an RTI and political activist. Along with other protestors, Tripathi raised the demand to arrest Ramnaresh Yadav as he had completed his tenure and did not hold immunity as Governor any more.

After Tripathi was injured and rescued he was rushed to Hamidia hospital where he was provided treatment for the burns.
