A comedy play ‘Mamu Manchale’ was staged at Shaheed Bhavan auditorium here on Wednesday marking the opening day of a three-day theatre fest ‘9th Ekta Theatre Festival’. The three day theatre festival is all about plays of different genres.
Mamu Manchale is a play that showcases two different concepts. On one hand it brings laughter and on the other it gives out a message of unity. Written by Khalid Hassan Siddiqui, the play was directed by Sumit Diwedi. The play was presented by the artists of Ekta Theatre Troupe.
The play begins with introducing the protagonist of the play ‘Mamu’ a 60 year old man who lives his life in total contrary to his age. At the age of 60, Mamu is loves to flirt with women, throw pranks on people and later is cursed for it.
As it is said that ‘there is always a story behind every man,’ Mamu too had a story behind. Actually Mamu got accidently married. His marriage was a total disaster for him, as he was just a guest in somebody’s wedding. But destiny decided him to be the groom.
But there was much more to Mamu’s life. There enters a guest from England at Mamu’s place and Mamu’s servant takes the responsibility of the guest. Nanne Khan, the servant takes him to a trip to Itwara, Budhwara, Taj Mahal, Islam Nagar and many other places of the city. On one hand he does his hospitality very well, but on the other hand he keeps on taunting him about British rule.
The story is twined in various short incidents. Mamu’s childhood friend is also in the scene which was revealed at the end of the play. After various hilarious incidents the play concluded with a message of unity.
