The quality of Narmada river water between the origin of the river Amarkantak and Alirajpur, is now being monitored at 50 places in the State in order to keep the river free from industrial pollution.
This arrangement has been made from this year.
Online monitoring system has also been arranged by Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board to measure the water quality of Narmada River in Omkareshwar.
The board is also checking the water quality in Raja Bhoj Talab of Bhopal through the online monitoring system.
In order to keep the ambient air quality pure in the cities of the catchment area of the Narmada River, the air quality index is being continuously displayed on the board's website.
To keep the Narmada River free from industrial pollution, waste water treatment plant has been set up by 11 main water polluting industries established in its catchment area.
Due to the setting up of this plant, all these industries now have zero discharge.
The M/s Security Paper Mill in Hoshangabad, which previously discharged 16,000 kilo litres per day of treated water in the Narmada River, has now reduced to about 2500 kilo liters per day.
This treated effluent water is being used in plantations. Besides, court action has also been taken by Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board against the dairy industries established along Gaur and Pariyat, tributaries of Narmada River.
