Madhya Pradesh Election Watch organization has demanded that 75 per cent attendance should be made mandatory for the MlAs in the State Assembly and a committee should be formed to supervise the attendance of the MlAs in the Assembly.

While talking to the media persons here on Friday, Madhya Pradesh Election Watch’s Coordinator Roli Shivhare told, “Vidhan Sabha was supposed to work 105 days during the 10 sessions in the last two years but it had worked only for 72 days. Vidhan Sabha had worked 333.5 hours in these 72 days which means the Vidhan Sabha had worked 4.6 hours per day.

Interestingly, Mamta Meena (BJP), Arif Aqeel (Congress) and Champalal Devda (BJP) have 100 per cent attendance in the Vidhan Sabha. Around 66 per cent MlAs have more than 76 per cent attendance. Anglo-Indian MlA lB lobo, Ramesh Patel and Congress MlA Kamlesh Pratap Shah have the lowest attendance in the assembly,” she added.

Shivhare said that MP Election Watch has received this information through Right to Information (RTI). According to the MP Vidhan Sabha Members’ salary, allowances and pension act 1972, Ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker and leader of Opposition does not get daily allowance hence it is not necessary for them to sign the attendance register.

Shivhare further said that on the contrary, according to the article 190 (4) of the Indian Constitution, the place of the MlA or MP would be announced vacant if he or she does not attend the assembly for 60 days in a year.

Shivhare demanded that it should be made mandatory for the Ministers, MlAs, Speaker and leader of Opposition to sign the attendance register every day in the assembly.
