In a major breakthrough, the police on Tuesday arrested main accused of a kidnapping case from nearby Ujjain town. City police had announced an award of Rs 10,000 for the arrest of accused who had been evading arrest in connection with his involvement in the kidnapping of a city based businessman Rajendra Shinde.
The victim was kidnapped from Maheshwar some days ago. According to police, the victim's female friend Saara had got Shinde kidnapped by the main accused and his accomplices. After being kidnapped from Maheshwar, the victim had been drugged and kept hostage in Chandan Nagar locality of the city.
Police said that Saara while keeping her male friend hostage had demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from victim's wife to purchase a house in Indore. The police after being informed about the kidnapping, immediately swung into action and managed to release Shinde from the clutches of kidnappers and arrested Sara, her female friend Ujma and two others.
However, the main accused in the kidnapping identified as Sarfaraz had reportedly been absconding. later, the police announced a reward of Rs 10,000 on his arrest and accordingly, Indore police on Tuesday acting on a tipoff arrested Sarfaraz from Ujjain. Police also recovered a gold chain and a bracelet watch of the victim Shinde from the possession of the accused. later in the day, he was handed over to lasudia police for further action. Police said that Sara, the kingpin of kidnapping had been living in Dubai along with her Pakistani husband.
