Protesting against demolition of houses built on Government land, residents of Mahabadiya at Kolar road disrupted the traffic for hours on Sunday. Protestors were demanding ‘Patta’ of land in compensation of the demolition their houses.

leader of Opposition in the State assembly Satyadev Katare who was present in support of the protestors alleged that the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh is not concerned for these people who have lost their homes.

President of State Mahila Congress Mandvi Chouhan, PC Sharma and several other Congress leaders were present during the protest.

The Congress raised slogans against MlA Rameshwar Sharma and district administration.

Sarpanch of Kalapani Panchayat Guddan Gyan Singh Tomar said that the Gram Panchayat has provided Patta of the land according to the rules and regulations. In the year 2008-09 around 300 Patta of land were provided in Mahabadiya and Gondipura villages under Kalapani Panchayat but Huzur SDM Maya Awasthi claims that the Panchayat has provided Patta on some land due to which the whole issue has been raised.

Notably, On Friday, the district administration had razed down 200 houses, including multi-storied buildings, at Mahawadiya in seven hours.

Huzur MlA Rameshwar Sharma said on Saturday: “The district administration has taken a completely wrong step. More than people who built their houses on encroached land, the patwari, the gram panchayat secretary and the sub-divisional magistrate-level officers are responsible for it and they should be punished first. What were they doing for the past five yearsIJ They should have not allowed them to construct them. Didn’t the officials then know that the people are illegally constructing their houses on government landIJ When the people have spent their money in construction, they suddenly came and demolished them without any prior notice.”

He further said: “I asked the collector to take action against those officers who failed to do their job of checking illegal constructions and became responsible for the loss of hundreds of people in Kolar. The district administration should not have demolished the houses and other buildings without prior notice.”
