lok Sabha Speakar Sumitra Mahajan here on Thursday evening informally launched the Prime Minister’s ambitious project ‘Jan Dhan Yojna’ amid august gathering at Ravindra Natya Grih. Describing it a unique scheme, Mahajan said the scheme would strengthen women’s economic empowerment and they would be free from fear that their earned money would be snatched away by their drunken husbands when they return home in the evening as under the scheme, they can even deposit Rs 100 in their bank accounts.
Mahajan said the scheme will create a sense of self-respect among the people across the country and it would make them feel that they are respectable citizens of the country. Under the scheme, people of the poor section can take an overdraft of Rs 5,000 on their deposits and it will help them get out of clutches of money lenders.
City Mayor Krishna Murari Moghe said the scheme while on the one hand would encourage saving, it would also make every section of the society feel privileged and honoured. Divisional commissioner Sanjay Dube speaking on the occasion said the targets under the scheme would be fulfilled through joint efforts of the people, administration and the banks.
The lok Sabha Speaker on the occasion gave away new bank passbooks, debits cards and other bank accounts material to new account holders.
