A shanty in Anna Nagar was completely gutted in fire after a cooking gas cylinder caught fire due to leakage and also damaged some nearby slums.
The fire tenders removed the burning cylinder and threw it into the drain to control the fire. In case if the fire was not controlled in time, all the surrounding slums would be completely gutted in fire. Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang also reached the spot.
Sarang told, it was fortunate that no one was there in the slum and no one was harmed in the fire. The goods were burnt completely. We will get the survey done and give proper compensation to the family. On the spot, BJP workers also helped in extinguishing the fire due to which the fire was controlled.
The slum that caught fire has a large number of slums around it. In such a situation, there was a fear of a huge fire, but everyone breathed a sigh of relief as it was controlled in time by fire tenders and efforts of locals.
There was no one in the slum where the fire broke out. This saved the family, but all the things kept in the slum were burnt to ashes.
The fire broke out around 11.45 am. After this, fire tenders and water tankers from Govindpura, Pul Bogda fire stations reached the spot. The fire was brought under control in about half an hour.
The reason for the faulty cooking gas cylinder would be investigated in the further investigation.
