In a tragic incident in Ramchua village, Maihar, a young man shot and killed his girlfriend's father after he opposed their marriage. The incident took place on Sunday night between 9 and 9:30 PM when Mahendra Singh, the father of the girl, was lying outside his house on the farm.
According to police, the accused, identified as Dhruv Kumar, who had been hiding at the location, approached Mahendra Singh and shot him in the chest with a country-made pistol, killing him on the spot. Hearing the gunshot, family members rushed outside and found Mahendra lying on the ground, soaked in blood. Witnesses saw two youths fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
Superintendent of Police Sudhir Agarwal confirmed that the police station was immediately alerted, and the in-charge reached the spot promptly. A search and cordon operation was conducted, but the accused managed to escape. Efforts are ongoing to locate Dhruv Kumar, with raids being carried out at potential hideouts.
The victim's family stated that Dhruv Kumar, a resident of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, had been insisting on marrying Mahendra Singh's daughter, but Mahendra had refused repeatedly. This rejection angered Dhruv, and it is believed that this led to the fatal shooting.
Mahendra Singh’s daughter, who had been studying in Rewa, had met Dhruv Kumar in 2023, and the two became close. Dhruv often visited her village, and despite Mahendra's objections to the relationship, Dhruv persisted. The situation escalated further when Mahendra reportedly confronted Dhruv and beat him a few days before the incident.
Police have registered a case and are actively searching for Dhruv Kumar. Since the incident, there has been a chilling silence in the village, with locals expressing shock and disbelief. One neighbor recalled hearing the sounds of distress, but by the time they reached the scene, the perpetrators had already fled.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to apprehend the accused.
