While thousands of the schools in Madhya Pradesh are facing basic facilities of school buildings and teachers, leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Ajay Singh has alleged that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan continues to engage in publicity gimmicks.
In a statement, Singh said that in the constituency of Chief Minister, there is a primary school in village Burath of Nasrullahganj tehsil, where 44 students are enrolled. However, it gets closed during rains, as there is no proper building of the school. He asked as why the Chief Minister does not visit this school during the ongoing programme, ‘Ao mil banche Madhya Pradesh’.
Criticising the programme, Singh alleged that the Chief Minister is always on occasions where he could enjoy and this occasion was merely a means for enjoyment for him. For this, throughout the State, teachers were directed to get the students listen to Chief Minister’s speech live. The teachers were also asked to purchase radios in the school, where there is none.
Singh stated that factually, in more than one lakh schools, there is no electricity, and Madhya Pradesh stands third in this category. Besides, thousands of schools donot have facility of toilets. “The Child Protection Commission has come out with over 500 recommendations including provision of school buildings, toilets, electricity and drinking water in the schools.
He further said that only in Sagar district, there are 91 schools where there is not a single teacher, while there is only one teacher in 510 schools of the same district. Besides, there are many schools where the strength of students is quite thin.
