Lodhi’s membership is being reinstated, says Speaker

Published on:

Madhya Pradesh Speaker NP Prajapati here on Monday announced that membership of BJP MLA Prahlad Singh Lodhi is being reinstated.

Lodhi was accused of beating up a Government officer and was awarded two-year jail term by a lower court on October 30 and on the basis of this order, the Assembly Speaker NP Prajapati had issued orders to disqualify Lodhi from House.

The BJP had strongly opposed the move alleging partisan behaviour from the Speaker.

On December 6, after the Supreme Court’s verdict, Lodhi had claimed that delivering sentence against him, the lower court had granted him bail and offered him time till Dec 12 to appeal in a higher court but despite a stay from HC, the speaker in a malicious manner terminated his membership to assembly.

While talking to media persons here on Monday evening, Prajapati said that Leader of the Opposition in State assembly Gopal Bhargav had come to meet him and requested to reinstate the membership of BJP MLA. “Now, Lodhi is member of the House and he would enjoy all the rights as an MLA,” he added.
