Local body polls, semi-finals for 2023 elections

The local boy elections in Madhya Pradesh would be a semi-final for the next year assembly polls. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, State BJP president VD Sharma are actively participating in the electioneering in view of thumping victory in the civic body polls.

The ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh is making efforts to achieve its already fixed target of 51 percent voting in the local body election. When the urban body elections were not declared, around three months ago, the saffron party had decided that it would increase its vote percent to 51 in next assembly elections.

BJP is the only political party which makes all out efforts to increase its vote share at each polling booth. In such campaigns, State BJP chief, chief minister and other senior leaders of the party actively participated recently in the campaign. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh CHouhan, State BJP president VD Sharma and other functionaries were seen moving door to door in different wards.

The party has now decided to comply with its resolve to increase vote share to 51 per cent in local body elections only.

Notably, in the last assembly elections in the year 2018, the vote percent of the BJP had increased, but the Congress had succeeded in forming government with over 40 per cent vote share. With the resolve of the saffron party to gain 51 per cent vote share in next assembly elections, it desires to squeeze the Congress below 40 percent.

In the past elections, the BJP could remain below 48 per cent vote share.
