Einthkhedi police have seized a loading van transporting liquor illegally and recovered 1620 liters of liquor worth Rs 4.62 lakh and van worth 3.5 lakh at Dobra Jod in the night on Thursday.
Acting on a tip off, police rushed to the spot and after stopping the van bearing registration number MP39G2932 tried to flag it down but the driver accelerated and tried to escape but he was chased and detained and seized the van.
Police said that when the driver was searched he was found missing and when the container was checked liquor bottles were found. The absconding of the driver and recovery of liquor suggests that the liquor was illegally transported.
The loading of the vehicle and scheduled delivery of the liquor could not be ascertained as the driver is still absconding and would be revealed after the driver is nabbed.
The circumstantial evidences suggest that nexus is working behind the illegal transport as the huge quantity of liquor was transported which was around Rs 4.62 lakh.
Based on the registration number the van driver and accused would be nabbed. The police have started to search for the accused.
The police have registered a case under section 34 (B) of the Excise Act and have started further investigation.
Police have recovered 180 boxes of liquor bottles from the van. The police recovered 155 boxes of country made liquor and 25 boxes of liquor. The liquor was transported from Islam Nagar bypass to Mubarakpur. Further investigation has been started.
