In sheer violation of rules and regulations, a liquor shop could be witnessed adjacent to New Madhvi Gautam Higher Secondary school in Karond locality of the State capital. While talking to The Pioneer, district collector Nishant Warwade expressed ignorance about the presence of liquor shop adjacent to the school. However, he said that he would get it checked and take necessary action. The presence of liquor shop is not only spoiling the nearby environment of the school premises, but also affecting the passersby as they are facing problems due to the drunkards, who consume liquor openly.
The residents and the school management had approached the officials from Excise department to district administration, but no action has been taken to date. Principal of the school NK Gautam said, “The shop is very close to the school and we had approached the authorities for long. We have been only complaining and repeated reminders are going to them but hardly any action has been taken.”
Suresh Kumar, a local resident informed, “The school is functioning for long and the liquor shop opened thereafter. The environment here is not so good ever since this shop opened. People sit in the open and drink, which is leaving a negative impact not only on the schoolgoers, but also on the children in the locality. The shop is so close to the school that everyone passing by catch attention on the activities.”
Babulal, father of a student said that he along with other parents had filed a complaint in this regard with the Excise department, but to no avail. A written complaint was also filed earlier with the district Collector, but still waiting for an action.
