Leader of Opposition Govind Singh challenges ED in SC

Published on:

Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly Govind Singh has challenged the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Supreme Court. In the month of January, ED had sent a notice to the Leader of the Opposition and issued summons to appear in its office in Delhi. The Leader of the Opposition had demanded the ED to explain the reason through the lawyer. On not getting a reply from ED, Dr. Govind Singh has filed a petition in the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court lawyer and Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha said that he has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court regarding the summons received by the ED to the Leader of the Opposition. The court has said three days ago that a three-judge bench will hear the matter.

On January 13, 2023, notice was sent to Leader of Opposition Dr. Govind Singh on behalf of Deepak Kumar Chunbuk, Assistant Director of Enforcement Directorate, ED Headquarters, Delhi. Notice has been given under Money Laundering Act 2002 (15 of 2003).

Accordingly, Dr. Govind Singh was to appear at the ED headquarters on January 27 at 11 am. Instead of appearing in the ED office, he sent a notice through a lawyer and asked the reason for sending the summons, but did not get a reply.

He also said that he has never seen such a notice before, in which he was called without giving any reason. Institutions like ED, CBI have started their work to bring down the morale of Congress leaders before the elections, but we are not afraid.
