The National law Institute University (NlIU) Bhopal campus has turned into a battleground between the students and Director SS Singh, as the agitating students continued their demand for resignation of the Director on graft charges and others on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Director said all the allegations against him by the students were baseless.
On late Saturday evening the students continued with their protest when Director Singh walked out of his office to have a word with them. As he entered the protest area, students shouted out loudly asking him to resign. For which the Director annoyingly answered, ‘Certainly Not’.
Singh tried to interact with the students telling them that the Chief Justice was ready to talk to five students’ representatives and few staff members to which students denied and asked for his resignation immediately.
On Saturday afternoon even the Bhopal SDM and CSP talked with the students asking them to stop their protest at once. When the students denied doing so, SDM asked them to carry on with the protest but in peace.
The students told The Pioneer that they have been warned by the CSP, “If any sort of misbehave is reported from your side, police will take a strict action against you all.”
Students further said that the Director has informed that he would continue with his services whatsoever. “He is trying to threaten us by using tantrums like asking our teachers to talk to us and sending police personnel.”
“But, we will continue with the protest until he resigns,” said students.
In a raging protest that has continued from Wednesday, students of NlIU are demanding an immediate resignation of the Director, Professor SS Singh.
The students are persistent to stage an indefinite sit-in protest in front of the Director’s office till he resigns. Due to the protest the academic activities of the college are on a standstill.
The students have alleged multiple instances of rampant corruption, sexism, castism, moral policing and lack of financial transparency that have made the student body lose their believe in the administration.
Citing examples of the being insensitive towards the students, the protestors said the Director denied giving any exemption from attendance to a student belonging to reserved category, denied to issue college ambulance to a student with severe injuries, has taken an undertaking from a girl to dress properly and more.
Given the fact that the administration has failed to address the students’ grievances, they have sent letters to Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and Chairman of the NlIU’s General Council, Justice Hemant Gupta as well as the Chairman of the UGC. These letters contain a list of grievances and demands.
