Labourers find  tough to take dead bodies to native places

Published on:

With a massive work force in over 700 factories Pithampur industrial area is hub for industries but family and friends of labour who died in accident or die of natural death face problem of taking body to the far-flung native place in other States or within remote areas of the State.

Most of the workers comprising the work force are from different districts of Madhya Pradesh and nearby districts of adjoining states.

At time of accidental death or natural death of labour it is a challenge for the family to take the body to home town situated several hundred miles.

To address the problem last year Pithampur Nagar Palika purchased an ambulance to help labour of the Pithampur industrial area and provided service without any charges and along with the services set up a toll free number to avail services.

As the Pithampur industrial area is highly populated sometimes more numbers of cases are reported in a single day which raises issue as one ambulance can serve one victim family.

CMO Nagar Palika Gajendra Singh Baghel told ‘The Pioneer’ that Nagar Palika Pithampur is the first Nagar Palika in Madhya Pradesh which is providing the help of ambulance for workers and as we have got limited budget we can maintain only one ambulance and  requires at least 4 more ambulances for the proper  functioning and for this all the industries should help the Pithampur Nagar Palika under their corporate social responsibility by providing the ambulance and maintenance cost.

Dhar Collector Shrikant Banoth told ‘The Pioneer’ that to  increase the number of ambulance a meeting with the all the industry owners of Pithampur industrial area to  review the welfare program would be held.
