On this occasion M.P. Director of Swachh Bharat Mission, Smt. Tanvi Sundriyal, while congratulating Madhya Pradesh Tourism and all the 23 resort managers and operators of Seoni districts including Kipling Court Pench, said that the objective of this scheme is to provide housing in the rural areas and jurisdiction of Gram Panchayats of every district of Madhya Pradesh. And the operators of hotels, resorts, dharamshalas, homestays and the staff working at these places under hospitality facilities have to be made aware about cleanliness.

Mrs. Sundriyal said that keeping this objective in mind, the Cleanliness Green Leaf Rating System has been launched in the hospitality facilities of the country by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism. Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) is a very ambitious program of the Government of India which is being run for cleanliness in rural areas. It ensures regular use of toilets, no open defecation or visible feces in the environment, management of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, greywater management and faecal sludge management.

Tourism industry is one of the major contributors to the Indian economy. The cleanliness and development of tourist places remains in the memories of tourists, which they take home with them. The reputation of any tourist destination is also affected by the level of beauty and cleanliness of that place. Managing the waste generated by increasing numbers of tourists while reducing risks to public health of local communities and protecting the environment is a major challenge.

This rating system will sensitize hospitality facilities to follow practices that promote “safely managed hygiene” and encourage them to adopt and improve this star-rating system.
