One of the famous theatre productions of the city Khala Kamaal Ki enthralled the audiences of Jaipur in a theatre festival. The play was staged on December 18 in a drama festival ‘Jairangam 2013’ held at Ravindra Manch, Jaipur. The artists of ‘Adakar theatre group’ Bhopal spread the charm of their performance among the Jaipuris and grabbed much applause for it.

A light hearted humorous play tells the story of ‘Khala’ (as everyone calls her by this name). She has dedicated her life for helping others and this is her life's main objective. Her character is one that rejects all barriers of caste and religion and lives in the spirit of Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb that Bhopal was once known for.

Notably, Swastika Chakraborty has given real meaning to the khala’s character. She has always managed to entertain the theatre-goers in khala’s attire. She has made them laugh and cry at the same time. The two-hour long play always made audience experience gripping situations at the theatre hall. The play as a whole is an entertainment package of narrating the Bhopal’s old tehzeeb wrapped up in proper humour.

Khala Kamaal Ki received a huge appreciation in various theatre festivals as well. The shows of this play have been staged at theatrical events in Madhya Pradesh as well as in other cities. It was also invited in events like Bharat Rang Mahaotsav 2012 by National School of Drama, New Delhi and it was also appreciated on the stage of National Urdu Theatre Festival Mumbai in 2013. aThe play is written by a noted theatre script writer Raffi Shabbir and is directed by a renowned name in the theatres Farrukh Sher Khan.

While talking to The Pioneer, writer of the play Raffi Shabbir said, “We felt a real contentment while giving a performance at Jaipur. It was a pleasurable experience for all of us.”

About the play Rafi said, “This is a light hearted theatre play of comedy genre. It tells the hardships face by a woman as she helps others. Basically, the seriousness of life is uncovered comically.” He further said, “Here we do not see Khala as a representative of a particular city but, she is a lady who belongs to every city, every mohalla, and every community, the recognizable, indomitable, brave and loved one.”
