Experimenting with classical Sufi Kathak, evolving a refined, sophisticated style in pure classical form, based on fast speeds, swift turns, mind thrilling footwork, delicacy of movements and impressive expressions, Kathak maestro Anuradha V Singh wowed the audience.
A solo performance by Anuradha V Singh was a fine dedication to the soulful ghazals of Jagjit Singh. She presented her majestic performance at an event Rang Kirti being held here on Monday at Shaheed Bhavan Auditorium. The three-day fest will continue till Wednesday.
Organised by Rangkriti Natya Sansthan, the event is being held under the scheme of Cultural Functions Grant Scheme. Principal Secretary, Department of Culture Manoj Shrivastava was the chief guest of the event.
The evening commenced with the V Anuradha Singh performing a Shiv Vandana, followed by a jugalbandi with the violin. Staging the traditional chakris of the dance form, she skillfully swirled around and performed the 36, 48 and 60 chakkars making leaving the audience wonder struck. She then performed a Tarana in Raga Hansdhwani.
She concluded her performance by paying a tribute to Jagjit Singh, by performing on his ghazals. Being masterful at converting the lyrics of the Ghazal in expressions she carried the audience through an array of emotions. She performed on 'Baat niklegi to...', 'kal chaudavi ki raat thi...', 'Wo kagaz ki kashti..', 'Fir Sawan rut Pawan...' and 'tera chehra kitna suhana lagta hai...'.
Talking about her performance, Singh said, "Not everyone opts for performing on Ghazals since there is very minimum scope for an artiste to show one's talent. However, in the earlier days, Ghazal was one of the very important parts of performing Kathak. Gradually it faded away and was replaced by Thumri and Bhajan. My teacher performed on Ghazals and now I am reviving this trend on performing on ghazals which is lost with time."
The danseuse was accompanied by tabla player and singer Salim Allahwale on vocal and Tabla, Manoj Bamrele on Violin, Tabla Shahnawaz Husain and light direction was done by Anoop Joshi.
