Katare seeks Assembly session to discuss law, order situation in MP

The leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Satyadev Katare, has sought a brief special session of the House to discuss the deteriorating law and order situation in the State.

Katare in a letter to Assembly Speaker Sitasaran Sharma on Monday said, "The people of the State are living under fear and a state of unrest prevails in the State due to the serious criminal incidents that took place in the State during the past few months. After every such incident the Chief Minister assures through political word game that all is well whereas the facts are just contrary to that."

Katare further in his letter, a copy of which has also been sent to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the Parliamentary Affairs Minister of the State, Narottam Mishra, mentioned the major criminal incidents that took place in the State during the past few months.

He said that assaults on the IPS, SPS and SAS officers in the State by the mining mafia has become a common incident. He cited various cases like kidnapping and burning to death of a journalist in Balaghat district, untimely death of over 100 people in Petlawad town of Jhabua district due to illegal storage of explosives and no arrest of criminals in the case, death of a couple in Neemuch by explosion days after Petlawad incident, broad daylight murder of a leading lawyer of Gohad tehsil of Bhind district, kidnapping of a child on gunpoint by criminals in Datia, storage and illegal mining of sand by a person having political clout in Sehore district and rape of a woman in a running bus in the State Capital.

He said that all the above mentioned examples prove that the workers of the ruling party and criminals are openly flouting the law in the State and are engaged in torture and malpractices while the State Government is mute spectator of all the criminal activities that has created an atmosphere of fear in the State. "In these circumstances it becomes necessary that the situation be discussed in the Assembly. Hence you should call a brief Assembly session immediately," he added.
