Katare demands CBI probe into DMAT scam

Published on:

The Congress party has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Madhya Pradesh Dental/ Medical Admission Test (DMAT) scam, alleging that large-scale financial irregularities took place.

Besides, the main opposition party of the state also demanded comprehensive security and recording of statements under section 164 of the former examination controller and treasurer of the examination body Yogesh Upreet, arrested recently by the STF for financial irregularities.

leader of Opposition (loP) in the Madhya Pradesh assembly Satyadev Katare in a letter to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday said that reports of financial irregularities in the DMAT always used to pour in, but with the arrest of Upreet followed by his statements that every year about Rs 1,000 crore exchanged hands through DMAT exams for admissions by the students, has confirmed corruption in the admission body.

Katare further said in his letter that DMAT is a separate and serious comprehensive financial crime and the state government is not taking any significant action in it.

Upreet, after his arrest provided vital information regarding involvement of senior officials and influential persons in the scam to the STF and there are hopes that many more important information would be provided by him.

In this perspective Upreet appears to be an important link of the scam and that is why his life is in danger, he added.  The loP said, “I have come to know that Upreet has expressed to register his statement under section 164 of the IPC. Hence I request you that arrangements should be made for Uprit to register his statement under section 164 of the CrPC and CBI enquiry of the whole scam should be ordered so that those involved in it should get exposed.”
