Kashmiri PhD student beaten in BU campus

In a bizarre incident, a Kashmiri student pursing his PhD was brutally beaten in the Barkatullah University campus on Monday. The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest demanding action against those involved in assaulting the student.

The unidentified persons who attacked the student had told him to leave the city along with other Kashmiri students. They did not forget to mention that it was an action in retaliation of the unrest in Kashmir.

The victim student, Umar Rashid alleged that the security personnel, faculty members and staff of the university remained silent spectators and did not bother to rescue him which shocked him as he was in the city for the past six years but never had the bleakest idea that such thing could happen with him in the city.

The thrashed student was pursuing his doctorate in Sociology for the past six years.

In the protest led by State spokesperson of the NSUI Vivek Tripathi, the registrar of Barkatullah University was appealed to take action against the hooligans as such incidents would tarnish the image of the University and the State.

Tripathi claimed that he has asked the authorities to take action by identifying the attackers and file a complaint with the police as Rashid did not know the attackers.

The security should be beefed up in the university campus and in case if the authorities would fail they would stage protest supporting their demands.

SHO Bagh Sewania police lalit Singh said that the victim has not made a complaint with the police regarding the incident. The police reached the premises after information of protest by the NSUI during which they handed over a letter to the Vice-Chancellor.

The miscreants asked the victim's name and where he belonged to and as soon as the victim gave the reply, he was attacked by the assailants.

The incident took place at around 11 am when the victim reached the administration building of the university campus.
