The conversation series organised by KITE Studio of Karmyogi Theatre Troupe “Journey of Dreams” is creating a buzz amongst the art lovers on internet.
In the fourth episode of the conversation series with Nitish Saair, Suvojit Bandhyopadhyay, a young, passionate theatre director and actor was invited to share his experience, life and struggles. Suvojit focused on telling the viewers about the importance and process of direction and designing in theatre arts.
He started by saying that everyone in the world does the same thing and leads almost a similar lifestyle like we all study almost the same curriculum, our drinking and eating habits are also almost same, but only our arts are different in this world. You cannot copy anyone else’s art as ones art and creation lies within them. He further added that director and designer should be the same for a play because only director knows what exactly he wants.
Suvojit said as majority of the group’s deals with shortage of funds, they should seek opportunity to innovate and create something new.
Suvojit is the founder of Theatre Shine, located in Dankuni, a town near Kolkata (West Bengal), and bravely answered when asked about his theatre. He told his plays talks about politics and he does so to bring up a sense of understanding amongst the audience.
The audience should also understand the hard work, time and passion behind preparing a play and they must behave in a manner which supports the artists, he added.
When asked about the importance of training and education for arts, he said that it is very important for an artist to get the complete knowledge about his work,
if he does so then he can easily survive and lead a good life without compromising with his arts, but half knowledge is always dangerous which can misguide you. He further added that he do not believe in competition as theatre is a collective art, so we should respect each other’s ast and work together and collectively for better cultural exchange.
Suvojit asked everyone to stay at home, safe and maintain social distancing in this crisis and told all the viewers that they should utilize this time by involving themselves in reading, writing, painting, practicing music and sharpening their skills.
