Relocation of villages from Sanjay tiger reserve is going on these days. Villages Kanjra and Baherwar have been relocated from Dubri sanctuary.
Award for villages Gaindwar, Dudhmania and Bhainsadol has been passed and efforts are on to open a joint account with collector. Besides, process to collect villagers' consent letters, documents etc, inspection and survey is also underway in 5 villages including Nimiha, Pankhora, Gijohar, Magra and Hathibandha. There are total 41 populated revenue villages in the core area of the tiger reserve of which 17 are in Sanjay National Park and 24 in Dubri sanctuary.
Following relocation of villages, tigers find more space to establish their territory. Development of meadows in vacated areas leads to rise in herbivores which are staple food for tigers. Human-tiger conflict also ends and people of relocated villages get better employment opportunities by joining mainstream of development.
Their dependence on jungles also ends. Tiger reserve's core area has tribal-dominated revenue villages mainly inhabited by Gond, Baiga, Kol, Panika and other tribes.
Joint account of residents of village Agarjhiriya in Sanjay National Park with collector is being opened.
Process to collect villagers' consent letters, documents etc, inspection and survey is also underway in 7 villages including Karcha, Chaphal, Suhira, Tingi, Padwar, Baigwan and Majhigawa.
The reserve is spread over 1674.511 sq kms including 812.481 sq kms core area and 861.93 sq kms buffer zone. Core area comprises both Dubri sanctuary and Sanjay National Park.
