Village Kagpur in Vidisha district, 60 km away from Bhopal is emerging as a Model Electricity Village. Residents of Kagpur are highly cautious about power.
This work will be accomplished with people's participation. About 20 other villages near Kagpur are also on their way to becoming Model Electricity Villages.
Kagpur is getting 24X7 power. As many as 120 additional poles have been erected in the village with additional high capacity transformers.
Cabalisation has been done on poles. Besides, digital meters have been affixed at residences of 300 consumers. Bills served on the basis of average consumption have now been revised.
All consumers are being served bills as per meter reading. Kagpur has become a village where no consumer is aggrieved with power company in any manner. Gram Panchayat has sought an estimate from power company for streetlights.
On deposit of estimated amount, the power company will start installing streetlights. Villagers are also being apprised of power conservation methods. Camps are also held regularly to solve power-related complaints in the village.
The power company is planning to supply uninterrupted quality power to 15-20 villages adjoining Kagpur in the same way. Villagers have been counselled to pay on the basis of power consumption.
Villagers of Kagpur are being motivated to set up cottage industries and food processing units.
Officers of Power Company are of the view that pace of economic growth of villages will accelerate when their residents become cautious about power.
