Junior Doctors of the government medical colleges of State will go on indefinite strike from July 12. Junior doctors’ strike will affect the working of Hamidia, Sultania and Kamla Nehru hospitals of State capital.

Madhya Pradesh Junior Doctors Association (MPJDA) Secretary Dr Ankit Jain said that junior doctors of Madhya Pradesh are least paid in the country. States like Bihar and Jharkhand are paying more to the junior doctors.

Presently junior doctors are getting paid Rs 26,000 per monthwhile in Maharashtra junior doctors get around Rs 50,000 per month. Dr Jain further said that last time the stipend was increased in 2011 after junior doctors went on indefinite strike.

Since then the DA of government employees have increased from 50 per cent to 82 per cent while no increment has been given to junior doctors. Office-bearers of Junior doctors associations of all the medical colleges had a meeting recently and in the meeting it has been decided that if the stipend is not increased and annual increment is not given then junior doctors will go on strike from July 12.

Junior doctors have symbolically protested for increase in stipend amount in last few weeks but in vain. Medical Education Minister Anup Mishra and Directorate of Medical Education (DME) officers are avoiding meeting JUD office-bearers, added Dr Jain.
