To protest against manhandling of some of the colleagues, junior doctors of the Gandhi Medical College (GMC) wore black bands while working on Monday.
The junior doctors had created ruckus in the hospital premises on Sunday night as the relatives of a patient clashed with the junior doctors after the death of the patient. Bhopal Commissioner Ajatshatru Shrivastava met the junior doctors on Monday and assured them that the number of the police personnel at the police outpost would be increased in the hospital premises.
While talking to ‘The Pioneer’ on Monday, Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) Secretary Avinash Thakur told that anyone could beat up the junior doctors as there is no proper security arrangement in the hospital premises. Around 10 to 20 people entered the premises on Sunday and beat the doctors. The officials had recently assured the junior doctors that adequate security arrangements would be made for the junior doctors. Thakur said, “Bhopal Commissioner Ajatshatru Shrivastava has assured us on Monday that he would deploy more guards in the hospital premises.
He assured that adequate security arrangements would made within a week in the hospital. Anyhow still, we would submit a memorandum to the dean, Bhopal Commissioner and to the other authorities on Tuesday as we are not satisfied with the assurance.
We want the district administration to maintain proper security in the premises round the clock,” he added.
Notably, there are still around 90 guards in the hospital premises and a police outpost has also been introduced inside the hospital after the strike of the JDA.
