Former MlA Ashok Veer Vikram Singh alias Bhaiya Raja, who was undergoing treatment at the Government-run Hamadia hospital here in judicial custody, died on Friday.
Sixty five-year-old Bhaiya Raja, who had suffered a brain haemorrhage and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital on December 15, breathed his last around 6 am, hospital superintendent Dr DK Pal said. Bhaiya Raja was serving life imprisonment on being found guilty of murdering his grand niece Vasundhara. He was also accused of sexually exploiting her. The body of Vasundhara, who was gunned down, was found at Guradi Ghat near Ratanpur, two days after the incident. Singh was subsequently convicted and imprisoned. Several criminal cases were lodged against Singh but due to his influence in the region no steps were taken against him.
Once a terror in Isagarh and Pawai areas of Chhatarpur, he was serving life imprisonment after being convicted for murdering his grand niece Vasundhara Bundela, a student of fashion designing course at Misrod here on December 11, 2009. The family members of Vasundhara had alleged that Bhaiya Raja had also sexually exploited her. Besides life imprisonment, Bhaiya Raja along with his wife and former BJP MlA Asha Rani had been convicted of abetment of suicide of their maid servant for 10 years. He was elected as an Independent MlA from Pawai in Chhatarpur early 1990s. The body of Bhaiya Raja has been sent for post-mortem examination, family sources said. His last rites would be performed at his native place Gharwar on Saturday, they said.
