Jail doctor suspended over negligence

Doctor posted at Central Jail Bhairavgarh was suspended after he was found negligent in shouldering responsibility during inspection conducted by district collector Ashish Singh on Wednesday.

The surprise inspection of the jail was conducted after 8 inmates and a prison warden were found to be corona positive and instructed to suspend prison doctor David Neelam, who was found responsible for the spread of the corona virus in the jail and gave instruction to CMHO Dr. Mahavir Khandelwal to arrange for another doctor in the jail.

In the morning Ashish Singh inspected the Central Jail and checked the arrangements for positive patients and suspected patients. The collector went inside the isolation ward and discussed with corona positive patients. The Collector questioned him about their health and took details of medical arrangements.

During the inspection, the Collector directed ADM Vidisha Mukherjee to arrange for isolation of all the corona positive and symptomatic patients jailed till Wednesday evening at PTS or other Covid Care Center to stop spread the coronavirus infection to other prisoners.

The Collector found during inspection that David Neelum, a doctor posted in the jail, is negligent in his work  and does not visit the jail regularly and deploys his paramedical staff to work and constantly ignore the orders of the jail superintendent.

Expressing displeasure over this, the Collector directed to take action on the suspension of Doctor Neelam. Along with this, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mahavir Khandelwal has been directed to depose another doctor in the jail. Jail Superintendent, Alka Sonkar, SDM RM Tripathi and other jail officials were present during the inspection.
