Maiden session of Madhya Pradesh’s newly-constituted 14th Vidhan Sabha was on Wednesday adjourned sine die after adoption of the Motion of Thanks to Governor Ram Naresh Yadav’s address and passage of the second Supplementary Budget for the 2013-14 fiscal.
“The session, which had five sittings, witnessed oath-taking by newly-elected members, election of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker, announcement of the name of leader of Opposition and the Governor’s address besides other legislative business being carried out,” said Speaker Sitasharan Sharma before adjouring the House sine die.
Sharma said he conducted the House with impartiality in accordance to the expectations of everyone during his first session as a Speaker and provided everybody opportunities to place their views.
Observing that 102 legislators had been elected to the House for the first time, he called on all the members to discharge their functions in the service and welfare of public while working in the bounds of parliamentary procedures, rules and traditions.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the session, albeit brief, was significant. He praised the Speaker for conducting the House with impartiality despite tense moments. He also appreciated Deputy Speaker Rajendra Singh for discharging his functions efficiently.
Chouhan praised leader of the Opposition Satyadev Katare for fiercely raising his issues while also accepting the Speaker’s directives.
In the absence of Katare, main Opposition Congress member and former minister Mukesh Nayak said his party would discharge the role of a creative opposition. However, he pointed out that disruption in the House when any issue of public importance was being raised caused disappointment in the common man. He also made certain remarks that were expunged from the proceedings by the Speaker.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra urged the member to not utilise the formal concluding address for making such statements as he would get more opportunities in future.
